Leland Zwick, 70, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Leland K. Zwick will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Dan Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea veterans organizations.

Leland died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 25, 2007, while on vacation in Osceola, Wis. He was 70.

He was born on Aug. 7, 1936, in Gresham, Neb., the son of Richard C. and Louise (Abrahams) Zwick. Leland attended school in Buffalo, Neb., and then graduated from Lexington High School, Lexington, Neb. He served our country in the U.S. Air Force from

June of 1957 until his honorable discharge in December of 1960. Leland had a strong work ethic and when he returned from the service he began working at Nash Finch, and then in the &8216;60s he became manager of

Cut Low Grocery in Albert Lea. It was here that he met Sandra Hanson, whom he married on April 11, 1970. He later worked at Drug Supply Co, L.S. Sorem and Key Sales, retiring from fulltime work in 1998. In his retirement he began working at the rest stop on Interstate 35 near the Iowa border.

He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, and American Legion. Leland enjoyed his daily walk, morning coffee hours, fishing, playing cards, and was a passionate cribbage player.

He loved watching sports events on TV while listening to another game and napping at the same time. His favorite teams included the Green Bay Packers, the Nebraska Corn Huskers and the Minnesota Twins.

He formed a special bond with his grandchildren, especially after his retirement, and many special memories were made.

He will be sadly missed by his family, wife Sandra of Albert Lea, two daughters: Andrea and her husband Jeff Strom of Albert Lea and Stephanie and her husband Jason Bolinger of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Tarrah Hall, Scott, Casey and Savannah Strom, Josie and Ike Bolinger with a sibling on the way; brother Richard (Eveline) Zwick of Seward, Neb.; sisters: Armelda Schreiber of Stockton, Calif., and Betty (Don) Hofferber of Lexington, Neb.; sisters and brothers -in law: LaVonne (Don) Adams of Lake Mills, Iowa, Daniel (Judy) Hanson

of Albert Lea, Mary (David) Adamson of Burnsville, Jim (Judy) Hanson of Albert Lea, Sharon Hanson and Jan Pasmore of Zephyr Hills, Fla., Jerry Hanson of Buffalo, Nancy Poore of Carpentersville, Ill., Paul (Mary) Hanson of Dresser, Wis., Sonja Woolson of Osceola, Wis., Pam (Paul) Jerdee of Albert Lea; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Edith Wobig and her husband Earle; brother-in-law Floyd Woolson; and his loving dog, Nick.
