Tigers take part in Luther camp

DECORAH, Iowa &8212; The Albert Lea High School wrestling team participated in the 2007 Luther College Team Wrestling Camp in Decorah, Iowa.

More than 900 athletes attended the 2007 Luther Wrestling camps directed by Luther head wrestling coach Dave Mitchell.

Clinicians at the camps included NCAA Champion and former Iowa State University wrestler Zach Roberson, two-time NCAA Champion and former University of Iowa Wrestler T.J. Williams, three-time All-American wrestler from Iowa State University Travis Paulsen, All-American wrestler from the University of Minnesota Jayson Ness, and Luther College NCAA Champions Matt Pyle and Nate Hansen.

Campers participated in team building activities, intensive &8220;Train Like a Norseman&8221; sessions, technique sessions and live wrestling sessions.

The camp closed with an individual tournament on Saturday morning.

Three Albert Lea wrestlers earned Wrestler of the Day honors at Luther camp in Trey Hable, Cody Hansen and Logan Kortan. In addition, six Albert Lea wrestlers earned individual tournament champion honors in Hable, Hansen, Adam Kermes, Kyle Kriewall, Andrew Peterson and Anthony Tippett.

Lee Meirick, current Luther wrestler, served as Albert Lea &8220;Camp Coach&8221; and provided wrestlers with verbal and written feedback.

Students competing for Albert Lea High School included: Christian Andersen, Trevor Friday, Nicholas Grangneth, Hable, Hansen, Kermes, Jon Kluver, Kortan, Zach Koziolek, Kriewall, Nate Lein, Alex Nielsen, Andrew Peterson, Derrick Peterson, Brandon Ranum, Trevor Rasmussen, Ethan Reed, Brody Sundblad, Matt Tiegs, Tippett, Jacob Vietze and Mitch Webb. The team was coached by coaches Larry Goodnature and Mike Hansen.

Luther wrestling has experienced great success in recent years, placing fourth last season and placing third at the NCAA Division III Championships in 2005 and 2006.

Last season Luther crowned two NCAA champions and four All-Americans.
