Adelaine Gertrude Frieda (Baer) Sime of Albert Lea died on Oct. 10, 2007, after a short stay at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea. She was 85 years old.
The memorial service will be at Mansfield Lutheran Church on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Don Rose will officiate. Visitation is one hour before the service.
Adelaine was born the daughter of Erick Carl Baer and Agnes Pauline Lindeman on March 15, l922. She attended the Hintz Rural Elementary School and graduated from Kiester High School in 1940. After working for several years as a family support person in the community, on June 14, 1942, she married Wayne Sime. Her son, Wesley was born 1943 and now resides in Lincoln, Neb., with his wife Maxine (Fritch) Sime. Her oldest daughter, Andrea was born in 1949, and also lives in Lincoln, Neb., with her husband Craig MacPhee. Her daughter Melodee was born in 1954 and lives in Ellendale with her husband Tom Mattson.
Adelaine was a homemaker who farmed with Wayne for many years near Kiester. Later, she moved to Albert Lea and worked as an aide and physical therapy assistant at St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home.
Adelaine was baptized, confirmed and married at Mansfield Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Women of the Church and active in the Altar Guild.
In her retirement, she was a volunteer for 25 years with Meals on the Go, first as a driver, a checker and later as a coordinator. She was also on the board of directors.
Adelaine loved sports both as a participant (in softball and more recently in bowling) and as a spectator in baseball and football (The Twins & Vikings) but most enthusiastically in wrestling where her grandsons Krister and Anders participated very successfully. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition, she traveled to many parts of the world to visit with her family on their various sojourns, much like her mother Agnes Baer had done many years ago.
In addition to her children, her survivors include siblings, Vernon (Fern) Baer of Albert Lea, Milon Baer of Albert Lea, Robert (LaVonne) Baer of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and VeeAnn(Brian) Finnemore of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren: Krister (Jennifer) Mattson of Duluth, Anders (Lynsee) Mattson of Duluth, Natalie Sime and Brandon Wood of Denver, Colo., Paul (Margaret) MacPhee of Vancouver, Wash., Heather (Christopher) Ryan of Tujunga, Calif., and Rob (Ashley) MacPhee of
Gaithersburg, Md. Great-grandchildren are Danika Wood of Denver, Colo.,
Emersyn Eichman of Duluth, Jon and Kenneth MacPhee of Vancouver, Wash., and Connor, Kara and Cameron Ryan of Tujunga, Calif.
Adelaine was preceded in death by her father, Erick Baer in 1946; her mother, Agnes Baer in 1983; her brother Alvin Baer in 1960; and sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Baer in 1989.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to Mansfield Church Organ Fund or to Meals on the Go in Albert Lea.
