Robert Dennis, 85, Blooming Prairie

Robert Manley &8220;Bud&8221; Dennis, age 85 of Blooming Prairie, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, at his home. He was born Jan. 2, 1922, to Frank and Lucy (Chubbic) Dennis in Blooming Prairie Township, Dodge County, where he grew up and attended country school. After completing his education, Bud farmed. He married Orene Christianson on Jan. 30, 1943, at the Lutheran parsonage in Blooming Prairie. They made their home on the family farm until 1945 when they moved to Albert Lea so Bud could work as a truck mechanic at Wilson Meat Packing Company. In 1952 they bought a farm west of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church where they were members. He was the Newry Township supervisor for eight years. He retired from farming in 1974 and built a new home south of Blooming Prairie off Highway 218 where they lived until moving into Blooming Prairie in 1992. Bud enjoyed fishing. They spent several winters in Florida. He was the handyman for the family, using his plumbing skills. He raised a garden, specializing in tomatoes.
Survivors include his wife, Orene of Blooming Prairie; two sons, Roger (Mary Simmons) Dennis of Belton, Texas, and Vern (Gloria) Dennis of Blooming Prairie; two daughters, Linda (Ed) Peak of Hayward and Brenda (Mike) Rasmussen of Cleveland; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Dyson and Florence Ferguson, both of Albert Lea; and one brother, John Dennis of Evansville. He was preceded in death by his parents; ten siblings; and two grandchildren, Stephanie and Robert Dennis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bruce Falksen officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery.
