Albert Lea finishes 12th at competitive Clash

ROCHESTER – The eighth-ranked Albert Lea wrestling team concluded The 6th Annual Clash with three losses in the third bracket Saturday to finish 12th out of 32 teams.

The day began with a 35-22 loss to Class AA third-ranked Simley followed by a 42-22 setback to Kaukauna, Wis. before concluding their dual tournament with a 41-27 loss to Wheaton North, Ill.

Albert Lea&8217;s top-ranked Cody Hansen completed a perfect tournament picking up three more wins Saturday to go 6-0 over the two days.

The Tigers started strong against Simley getting a 9-3 decision from No. 4 Logan Hansen at 189 and a pin from Ethan Reed to go up 9-0. However, Albert Lea would lose eighth-ranked heavyweight Andrew Peterson for the final two duals when he was disqualified for flagrant misconduct which resulted in a loss of three team points for the Tigers.

In a matchup of top wrestlers, the Tigers&8217; Class AAA second-ranked Logan Kortan was downed by Class AA No. 3 John Prokopowicz 5-2. The Tigers made it closer with wins from Anthony Tippett and Matt Tiegs.

Both Cory and Cody Hansen downed ranked opponents against Kaukauna &8212; the No. 2-ranked team in Wisconsin &8212; in the dual.

Cody Hansen downed another top 10 opponent against Wheaton North at 112, Adam Kermes picked up a pin as did Logan Hansen and Ethan Reed won by technical fall.

Logan Hansen was named to the tournament all-scholar athlete team and Cody Hansen was the outstanding wrestler at 112 pounds for the tournament.

The Tigers are back in action Saturday when they travel to St. Cloud for a tournament.
