Myrtle Schleis, 89, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Myrtle Marie Schleis (Budin) were held at The Holy Redeemer Church in Montgomery at 11 a.m. today. The Rev. David Barrett officiated. Visitation was from 9 to 11 a.m. today at the Shoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Center.

Myrtle died Saturday, Jan. 5 2008, at the Albert Lea Medical Center, Albert Lea at the age of 89.

Myrtle was born on Aug. 25, 1918, to Frank and Theresa (Ziegenhagen) Smisek.

She was raised on a farm and attended school in Lexington Township.

Myrtle was united in marriage to Edward F. Budin on April 17, 1947, in Mason City, Iowa. They made their home in Albert Lea for 34 years.

After Edward&8217;s retirement, they moved to the Hide A Way Resort in Lexington until Edward&8217;s death in 1989.

On April 20, 1991, she was united in marriage to Arnold Schleis at St. Mary&8217;s Catholic Church, Le Center. For the next 15 years, they lived in rural Montgomery, where Myrtle enjoyed caring for their many cats.

A special thanks to the staff at the Good Samaritan Center of Albert Lea for their loving care. This is where Myrtle resided from Jan. 31, 2006, to Jan. 5, 2008. She enjoyed watching and feeding the goats there when she wasn&8217;t busy circling words in her search word books.

Special thanks also to the Rev. Jim Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis of St. Theodore Catholic Church of Albert Lea for their prayers and visits and to her special friends Audrey and Gladys.

Her hobbies were fishing, playing cards, dancing and listening to old-time music. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold of Lexington; daughter, Judy (Dale) Murphy of Albert Lea; daughter, Lois Tyge of Coon Rapids; sister, Mona Smisek of New Prague; grandchildren, Kathy (Kelvin) Attig, Albert Lea, Mike (Rose) Lein of Alden, Terry Johnson and special friend, Tim Osmundson of Northwood, lowa, and Tom and (Lisa) Murphy of Apple Valley; great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jared Attig, Albert Lea, David Lein, Stevens Point, Wis., Daniel Lein, St. Cloud, Samantha and Dillan Lein, Alden, and Tanya, Tiffany and Travis Johnson, Northwood, lowa; two great-great-grandchildren, MaKayla Carbert and MaKenzie Attig of Albert Lea; stepchildren, Ken (Luella) Schleis of Montgomery, John (Mary) Schleis of Montgomery, Jeanne (Ray) Gates of Eagan; Judy Bell of Minneapolis; and stepgrandchildren.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Budin; sister, Moann Smisek; brother, Francis Smisek; and stepsons, Ronald Schleis and Robert Schleis.

Myrtle touched each of our lives with her love. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Blessed be her memory.
