Police arrest Austin man in stabbing case

Dodge County Sheriff&8217;s deputies arrested 27-year-old Jose Gonzalez, of Austin, Friday morning in Dodge Center for the Wednesday night stabbing of an Albert Lea man.

Gonzalez is in custody at the Freeborn County Detention Center, and the vehicle he was driving was towed back to Albert Lea for evidence.

Albert Lea Police Lt. Phil Bartusek said police are recommending charges of first-degree assault for Gonzalez. Charges will be officially filed on Monday.

Bartusek said the stabbing took place after Gonzalez and 22-year-old Javier Hernandez got into an argument over some cash that was owed. Hernandez was stabbed in the abdomen.

Information about the knife used is still unavailable.

The incident happened at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at 627 Larimore Circle, according to police reports.

The Dodge County Sheriff&8217;s deputies arrested Gonzalez at about 11 a.m. Friday after a stakeout, and then Albert Lea Police picked him up later that afternoon.
