Helen Lantis, 70, Red Wing

Helen Katherine Lantis, 70, of Red Wing, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at Covenant Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.
She was born March 12, 1937, in Albert Lea, to Albert and Ruby (Sorenson) McCornack and graduated from high school there in 1955. She married Kenneth Hartgers on May 23, 1959,, in Nashua, Iowa. They lived in Albert Lea, where she worked at First National Bank. Kenneth died on Dec. 25, 1962, and she later married David Lantis on July 25, 1964. They moved to Red Wing in 1969. She worked at Vasa Children&8217;s Home and was a special education teaching assistant for the Red Wing School District. After retirement she served as a mentor for Lutheran Social Services. She was a member of United Lutheran Church, Phantom Car Club and a Camper Club. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, baking, collecting snowmen and Santas, playing cribbage and reading. Most of all she treasured spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, David of Red Wing; four children, Ted (Mindy) Hartgers of Wanamingo, Curt Hartgers of Red Wing, Dawn (Mike) Piens of Rochester and Doug (Laurie) Lantis of Red Wing; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Jirah (Trudy) McCornack of Albert Lea, Mike (Sharon) McCornack of Geneva and Phillip McCornack of Albert Lea; two sisters, Lois (Clair) Sauer of Lewiston and Cathy (Ron) Fenner of Bay City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Robert; and her first husband, Kenneth.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing with the Rev. Randall Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing and for one hour prior to the service.
