An Albert Lea fifth-grade girls&8217; basketball team coordinated by Gary Chicos will be playing in the Pacesetter Region 1 playoffs at Kingsland Middle School in Wykoff on April 19.

All teams who play in the region playoffs will be attempting to qualify for the 2008 Minnesota Youth Basketball State Championships, which will be held in June at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, near St. Cloud.

Each regional playoff is open to all Minnesota teams. All teams will play three to four games in the regional tournaments, which are limited to 16 teams.

This statewide youth basketball tournament system, coordinated by Pacesetter Sports, annually involves over 700 teams. All head coaches and athletics directors have received registration materials.
