Bruce Reed, 78, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Bruce J. Reed of the Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea, formerly of Rochester,

be 11 a.m. Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. The Rev. William Bankester will officiate. Interment will be in the Hollandale Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Military honors will be accorded.

Bruce died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center. He was 78 years old.

Bruce was born March 6, 1930, in Hollandale, the son of Bruce and Bertha (Peterson) Reed. He grew up in Hollandale. From 1955 to 2006 he lived in Rochester. In August of 2006, Bruce moved to Oak Park Place in Albert Lea and in January 2007 he entered Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. Bruce married Betty Leidal on Oct. 30, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. He was proud to serve his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. Bruce was a member of the Minnesota Highway Patrol for 35 years. He retired as a Lieutenant. Bruce was a member of Gloria Dei Church of Rochester, Retired Peace Officer Association, Minnesota Chapter of 1st Marine Division Association and the

American Legion. Bruce was proud that he had been accepted into West Point. Bruce&8217;s love and passion was for his horses, golfing and baseball (his favorite team being the Cardinals). He also was an avid history reader.

Bruce is survived by two sisters: Lois Jean Davis of Oklahoma and Phyllis Marie Cole of Florida; sisters-in-law: Iris Reed of Hollandale, Deloris Reed of Albert Lea, Gladys Sigurdson of Albert Lea, Ellen Mae Boyer of Albert Lea, Mary Helen Peterson of Albert Lea and Darlene Bird and her husband Lyle of

Freeborn; and several nieces and nephews.

Bruce is preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty; brothers: Veryl Reed and Robert Reed; and one sister in infancy.
