Eugene Langlie, 79, of Ellendale

The funeral service for Eugene &8220;Gus&8221; D. Langlie will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. The Rev. Arne Halbakken will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, Ellendale. Military honors will be accorded by the Ellendale veterans organization.

Eugene died on Thursday, March 27, 2008, at his home in Ellendale.

He was 79 years old.

Eugene was born in Berlin Township, Steele County, on Nov. 8, 1928, the son of Henry and Sena (Thompson) Langlie. He was a resident of Ellendale all his life where he also graduated from the Ellendale Public School. Eugene was a member of First Lutheran Church, Ellendale. He was married to Stella Clemetson on April 15, 1950 in Ellendale.

Eugene had farmed and worked as superintendent with Lysne Construction Co. until his retirement.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Eugene had been sexton of the First Lutheran Cemetery. He played on the 1945 class S State Championship Baseball Team. He then went on to coach 4-H softball.

He loved fishing and hunting, his strawberry patch, peeling apples for Stella&8217;s apple pies and working with stained glass. He was an avid Minnesota sports fan, especially with the Twins and Vikings.

He also loved to give tractor rides. One of his favorite enjoyments was the 43 years he was able to spend with his family at Bear Paw Resort in Outing.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 58 years, Stella of Ellendale; children: Mark (Gloria) Langlie of Pomeroy, Iowa, Jane (Richard) Tappe of New Richland and Joel (Kelly) Langlie of Ellendale; grandchildren: Megan (Andrew) Danielson, Marrissa Langlie, Mackensie Tappe, Mariah Tappe and Jake Langlie; sister, Henrietta Lee of Clarks Grove; sisters-in-law: Sylvia Langlie and Helyn Langlie, both of Ellendale; and nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; son Craig Allan Langlie; a daughter in infancy; four brothers: Arvid, Athan, Howard and Leighton; and two sisters: Orpha and Arvilla.
