Garnette Samudio, 75, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Garnette Joan Samudio of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Savior&8217;s Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Wayne Halvorson and Vicar Boyd Longshore will officiate. Interment will be in the St. John&8217;s Cemetery, Owatonna.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before service at the church.

Garnette died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home, Albert Lea. She was 75 years old.

Garnette was born and baptized in Walnut Grove on Sept. 29, 1932, the daughter of Arthur and Marie Ellen (Larson) Arnhold. She was confirmed in 1944 and later married to Anthony M. Samudio Sr. on June 22, 1952, at St. John&8217;s Lutheran Church, Owatonna, where they were members for two years before moving to their home of more than 50 years at 206 E. Third St., Albert Lea, and became a member of Our Savior&8217;s Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid and also of Mary Martha Circle.

Following high school, Garnette worked for Bell Telephone Co. in Owatonna. After her marriage she moved to Albert Lea where she raised her five children and later worked at Wayne&8217;s Grocery and sold Stanley Home Products and worked at Naeve Hospital as a dietary aid.

She was a PTA member at Ramsey School and den mother for Boy Scout Pack 3. She loved camping with Tony and her children. She was very active in school and church activities. Garnette loved to visit with family and friends and was a caregiver to many. She was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed reading books and poetry.

Garnette is survived by her husband of 55 years, Anthony Samudio Sr. of Albert Lea; step father, Dave Steafal of Owatonna; children: Tony Jr. and Phyllis Samudio of Albert Lea, Mary and Matt Samudio of Albert Lea, Paul and Lisa Samudio of Albert Lea, Mark Samudio of Albert Lea, and Robert and Sherry Samudio of Freeborn; grandchildren: Tony&8217;s children, Kim Shovlain of South Carolina, Miranda Samudio of Albert Lea, Joe Samudio of Albert Lea; Mary&8217;s children, Heather Larsen and fianc/ Tyler Baas of Albert Lea and Travis Larsen of Albert Lea; Paul&8217;s children, Dustin Samudio of Albert Lea, Dereck Samudio of Albert Lea; Mark&8217;s children, Taylor Samudio of Albert Lea and Stephen Samudio of Albert Lea; Robert&8217;s daughter, Alyssa Samudio of Freeborn; and five great- grandchildren: Michael, Corrine, Kaleb, Brandon and MaKayla.

Garnette was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Darlene Golden and Claire Verhelst; and brother Duane Arnhold.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
