George Dreyer, 83, Austin

George Robert Dreyer, 83, of Austin, died Monday, March 17, 2008, at St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.
He was born July 8, 1924, to Carl and Threase (Jacob) Dreyer in Lotts Creek, Iowa. He grew up and attended school in Austin and served in World War II. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he married Georgetta &8220;Jerry&8221; Bannick on May 25, 1946 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
George was a Hormel employee for 38 years and an Austin resident for the past 10 years. He taught Sunday school and sang in the choir at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Also a member of VFW Post 1216, George enjoyed farming, sports, fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Jerry of Austin; five daughters, Doris (James) Reim of Walport, Oregon; Annette Haro of Springfield, Mo.; Kay (William) Bauers of Albert Lea; Linda (Daniel) Bloor of Wauchula, Fla.; Wendy Thompson and friend, Royce Benhke, of New Ulm; one son, Randy (Kathy) Dreyer of Waunakee, Wis.; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Threase and Carl; two sisters, one brother; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Robert Seifert officiating. Interment is at Grandview Cemetery. Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. The family prefers memorials to cancer and heart funds.
