Memorial services for Rhett Mitchell Johnson, 43, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. on

Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. The Rev. Jay Dahlvang will officiate. Friends may visit with family one hour before services at the funeral home. The committal service will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery following the service.

Rhett died on Friday, March 21, 2008, at his home.

Rhett was born in Mankato on Sept. 28, 1964, the son of Dale Johnson and Joan (Hills) Johnson Kaphers. He attended school in Albert Lea and Boulder, City, Nev.

He lived and worked in Boulder City, Nev., Hood River, Ore., and Hot Springs, Ark., before returning to Albert Lea in 1998. Rhett was an active and gifted member of the local music scene. He wrote many original numbers and enjoyed singing and playing guitar while performing with those he fondly referred to as the clan. He was fun, gifted, inquisitive, creative, loving and very devoted to his friends and family. In addition to his music, he enjoyed playing cards, fishing, reading and spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his brother Scott Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; half-brother Tom Kaphers of New Hope; grandmother Marie Johnson of Wells; aunts, Patricia (Johnson) Schumacher of Bloomington, Virginia Hills of Albert Lea and Marilou (Hills) Rowe of California; uncles Barry Johnson of Mankato, Stuart Johnson of Wells and Kent Johnson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; step sisters, Tammy (Johnson) Gozzon and Kelliann Kaphers; step brothers Chris Kaphers of Brooklyn Center and Todd Johnson of Nevada; step mother Lois Johnson; step father Jerald Kaphers of Albert Lea; special aunt Dolly Johnson of Albert Lea; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; sister Traci Johnson; grandparents Robert and Edyth Hills; and his grandfather, Vernon Johnson.
