Luella Earl, 93, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Luella Mabel Earl of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. The Rev. Dan Baker will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Luella died Sunday morning at St Marys Hospital in Rochester. She was 93 years of age.

Luella was born Sept. 28, 1914, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Eddie A. and Ida (Halseth) Nelson. She attended public school in Albert Lea. On Sept. 21, 1931, she was united in marriage to Leslie N. Earl. Together they made their home in Albert Lea where Luella was the secretary for Earl Plumbing and Heating.

Luella was an active member of the First Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for 32 years.

She was state president for the Auxiliary Plumbers Association, secretary for the Saddle Club, and a Key Leader in 4-H. In August of 1997 she was the recipient of the Asset Builders Award. Luella loved horses and spending the holidays with family and her grandchildren.

Luella is survived by her children, Donald and his wife Virginia Earl of Rewey, Wis., Joyce and her husband Robert Sloan of Corona, Calif., Jerry Earl of Westbrook, and Sandi and her husband Ron Boekelman of Albert Lea. There are 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and many great- great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Edward Nelson of California; one sister, Dorothy Hougard of Selma, Calif.; two sisters-in- law, Betty Nelson of Wisconsin and Pearl Traufler of Blue Earth; and several nieces and nephews.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leslie in 1985; brothers Kenneth and Vernon Nelson; sisters Delores Halland, Virginia Larson and Violet Jensen; and one daughter-in-law Dee Earl.

Luella will be sadly missed by her loving family and many friends.
