Mattie Meagher, 98, Springfield, Ore.

Mattie Jane McNeese Anderson Meagher, 98, died at 3 a.m. March 17, 2008, while in hospice care at Springfield, Ore., from complications and malfunction of her kidneys and thyroid.

Her remains will be buried in the month of May in her family plot with her late husband Ed, at Prior Lake, site of their other long-term residence.

Mattie is survived by her son, Don Anderson of Springfield, Ore., two grandchildren in Seattle, Wash., two grandchildren in St. Paul and numerous great-great grandchildren.

Mattie was preceded in her passing by her daughter Jayne, her husband Ed, both parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Mattie was born at Chuckey, Tenn., migrated to Minnesota as a child with her parents and siblings to Albert Lea. She graduated from Albert Lea High School 1928, married Clifford Anderson in 1930, bore and raised two children prior to moving to Minneapolis in 1943. She was owner/operator of a grocery store for 14 years prior to her marriage to Ed Meagher and resided for 38 years on the shore at Prior Lake. Mattie moved to Springfield, Ore., in August 2006 to be near her son Don Anderson.

Her favorite sports, which she continued beyond her work retirement were roller skating, bowling and dancing. She celebrated her 98th birthday in November by dancing the Charleston for her party guests.
