Patrick McQuillan Sr., 84, St. Paul

Patrick Dean McQuillan Sr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis P. and Elizabeth (Metz), brothers Franklin &8220;Mickey&8221;, Joseph (Glenn), and Robert; sisters Joyce (Dan) Flaherty and Elizabeth (Dan) Flaherty; as well as his granddaughter Dena.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Sweeney); 11 children, Tim (Jan), Patrick Jr. (Billie), Michael, Mark (Dawn), Therese, Duane (Katie), Frank (Terri), Charles (Jackie), Kathy (Brad) Niebuhr, Steven (Joyce) and Jeff (Lucy); 19 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; sister Colleen (Jerry) Strom, sister-in-law Amy McQuillan and many nieces and nephews.

He was born July 4, 1923. A graduate of Mechanics Arts High School, and St. Thomas College. A World War II veteran who proudly served his country, Pat was a teacher in the St. Paul Public School System for more than 30 years, teaching physical education to special education children. He loved to coach as well as participate in all types of athletic activities. He was a co-founder of the Hamline-Griggs Athletic Association and a charter member of the Midway Men&8217;s Club. He was united in marriage May 1, 1948, to his true love, his wife of 60 years, Mary.

Pat will be truly missed by all of us who knew his passion for life.

Donations preferred to the Heart Failure Society of America. Visitation will be at the O&8217;Halloran & Murphy Funeral Home, 575 S. Snelling Ave., St. Paul, 651-698-0796 on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with interment at Fort Snelling immediately following.
