Long ball hurts Albert Lea baseball team

Albert Lea pitching surrendered three home runs in its 13-3 loss to Rochester Mayo Thursday afternoon and dropped to 2-7 in the Big Nine baseball standings.

&8220;We are in that part of our schedule where we run into some really tough teams,&8221; said Tigers head coach Joe Sczublewski. &8220;We play some pretty good defense at times, but we still aren&8217;t able to get all the routine plays. That&8217;s what hurt us today.&8221;

Logan Kortan went four innings for the Tigers, giving up four runs on seven hits. Colby Strilaeff came in and finished off the final two innings giving up four runs on six hits.

A.L.&8217;s Anthony Tippett continued to be the Tigers hot bat with two hits on the day. Jared Matson also had two hits followed by Kortan and Luke Grosssman with one each.

After facing a 7-0 Mayo team the Tigers host an 11-1 John Marshall squad for a doubleheader Saturday at Albert Lea&8217;s Hayek Field.
