An award-winning documentary film about homosexuality and biblical scripture is coming to Albert Lea on June 17 and 18. “For the Bible Tells Me So,” to be shown in Lecture Hall Room 124 of Riverland College’s Albert Lea campus, asks questions about whether or not God condemns loving homosexual relationships and explores the chasm separating Christianity from gays and lesbians.

Through the experiences of five very normal, Christian, American families — including those of former House Majority Leader Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson — the movie investigates how people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child or family member.

This event, sponsored by United Methodist Church and Christ Episcopal Church of Albert Lea, as well as the Human Rights Campaign, Paths to Peace in Freeborn County, the Riverland Community Gay Straight Alliance, and Q & A of Austin, will host a panel discussion afterward. On the 17th, the panel will include Randi and Phil Reitan of Mankato who were both featured in “For the Bible Tells Me So.” The event is open to the public and is free of charge. Both showings begin at 7 p.m.
