Freshman throws one hitter for Bulldogs

The Lake Mills baseball team must be thankful for the high school rule that pitchers must have two days of rest between starts.

Because of the rule the Bulldogs sent freshman Levi Dahle to the mound Friday against conference leader Belmond-Klemme (7-2 overall, 3-1 NIC) and Dahle delivered a one-hitter against the Broncos.

His performance was buoyed by the powerful offensive punch Lake Mills packed as they exploded for eight runs in the first inning to cruise to a 13-0 win over Belmond-Klemme.

The Bulldogs (7-5 overall, 2-2 NIC) had struggled hitting the ball, but all that was erased with one swing of the bat.

After Lake Mills filled the bases with three consecutive singles, Brad Midlang crushed a pitch over the fence in center field for a grand slam.

“They just relaxed,” Bulldogs head coach Jason Blaser said. “Once we scored it gave Levi confidence to pitch.”

Dahle went five full innings and allowed just one hit while striking out four and walking three for the shutout win.

It was just another moment of glory for Dahle as he recently joined the team and belted a three-run homer in his first at-bat at the varsity level this season.
