Irene Slinde

The funeral service for Irene Imogene Slinde, of Albert Lea will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Todd Walsh will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.
Irene died on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at St. John’s Lutheran Home. She was 79.
Irene Imogene was born on Dec. 16, 1928, in Fort Clark, N.D., the daughter of Carl and Alma (Linn) Skager. She grew up in a large family in Center, N.D. She married Orlyn J. Slinde on Sept. 2, 1946. They moved to Albert Lea in 1955, where they made their home and raised their eight children. Irene worked hard all of her life including working at Streater for more than 22 years. She loved her family and selflessly raised and cared for them.
Irene was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children: Joyce (Joe) Abrego, Ardus (Bob) Nimz, Cleone (Jim) Ashley, Candy (Ed) Courtney, Ivy (Chuck) Jerich, Jon Slinde, Kathleen (Jack) Willis and Barbara Prudoehl; 19 grandchildren: Joe (Kim) Abrego, Jeremy (Rochelle) Abrego, Jackie Brabec, Joshua, Gabriel and Katy Ashley, Ben, Sean, Dan, and Alex Courtney, Lee and Gena Jerich, Jesse and Andrew Slinde, Tyler, Ryan and Jeffrey Willis, Erik and Garrett Prudoehl; 10 great-grandchildren: Trevor and Allison Abrego, Logan, Trenton and Rya Abrego, Jarrett, Jasmine and Jenna Brabec, Owen and Gracie Slinde; sisters: Elaine, Agnes, Zelda and Clarice.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband Orlyn, and her parents Carl and Alma Skager, and her brothers and sisters: Marvin, Melvin, Maynard, Milton, Betty and Dora.
