Weekend Planner: Marion Ross, breakfast, boats, fishing and music top planner

Well, it might be cloudy out today, but there have been sunny days, too. Hopefully, the skies clear Sunday morning for the Cloverleaf and Lakeview Lions Annual Flight Breakfast at Albert Lea Municipal Airport.

The Lions will serve from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The price for adults is $6 and for children $3. People are welcome to walk or drive to the city airport and enjoy breakfast.

The Pelican Breeze II hosts a special beer-tasting cruise today. It leaves at 7 p.m., and reservations must be made by 4 p.m. The tasting is sponsored by Kreiger Beverage.

Friday

The big deal event this weekend is no doubt the dedication of the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center, formerly the Albert Lea Civic Theatre. But that happens Saturday. However, actress Marion Ross will speak to Albert Lea High School graduates during commencement at 7:30 p.m. in the gymnasium.

The Pelican Breeze II sets sail at 6 p.m. for its Friday Night Pizza Cruise. Reservations must be made by 4 p.m. Call 383-2630.

Saturday

The dedication of the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center will be at 3 p.m. at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Water Street. Ross, has been in several movies and is most well-known for her role as Marian Cunningham on “Happy Days,” a TV sitcom about a Milwaukee family in the 1950s that aired on ABC from 1974 to 1984. She recently played Aunt Lucille in the big-screen send-up “Superhero Movie,” which came to theaters March 28. The name changes come after the installation of all new seats in the theater.

Ross will perform “Love Letters” with Paul Michael as part of the dedication of the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center on June 7. The performance starts at 7:30. Tickets are available at Doyle’s Hallmark in the Northbridge Mall, Ben’s Floral and Celebrations in downtown Albert Lea. Tickets are $20, with all proceeds going to the performing arts center. There are a limited number of tickets for an after show celebration where you will meet and have your picture taken with Marion at Crescendos. These tickets are an additional $10 and must be purchased with a ticket to Love Letters.

The Pelican Breeze II will host a narrated cruise at 4 p.m.

Children 16 years old and younger who are accompanied by an adult can fish Saturday without a fishing license during the annual Take a Kid Fishing Day. The event is from 9 a.m. to noon and is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Fountain Lake Sportsmen’s Club. In addition to prizes and fishing, there are often food stands for participants. The Make-a-Wish Foundation bus will be at the event as a stop on its outreach tour, sharing the spirit and mission of the foundation. The first, second and third largest fish caught by both boys and girls will receive prizes.

Sunday

A special brunch will be held on the Pelican Breeze II. The boat sets sail at 11 a.m., but reservations are needed by 4 p.m. Saturday. Call 383-2630.

The Pelican Breeze II will host a narrated cruise at 1:30 p.m.

Full House will perform in the bandshell at Edgewater Park in Albert Lea as part of the city’s Music in the Park series. This starts at 1:30 p.m. and goes until 3:30 p.m.
