Carol Hagen

Carol Elizabeth Hagen, 93, passed away on July 13, 2008. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Richland, with the Rev. Paul Andree officiating. Burial will follow at St. Olaf Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Church. Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, New Richland.
Carol was the daughter of Ben and Ella (Verplank) Weed. She was born March 15, 1915, in Waseca County and attended rural schools graduating from New Richland High School in 1932. In September 1933 she was united in marriage to Orland H. Hagen. Carol and Orland raised their family on a farm West of New Richland until their retirement and relocation into town.
Carol served as Byron Township assessor and Byron Township Clerk. After moving to the City of New Richland she served as City Clerk and spent several years as a member of the New Richland City Counsel. The New Richland Care Center became an interest of her’s during her time with the City during the construction of the Care Center. Carol served as a member of the Care Center Advisory Board for several years and a member of the Board at Royal Villa. She also served as a member of the New Richland Senior Citizens Broadway Unit, New Richland Garden Club and Busy Homemakers for many years.
Carol is survived by four children: daughters: Neoma Johansen and husband Ken, of New Richland, Darlene Dinse and husband Dennis of Owatonna, sons: Ordwin H. “Buzz” Hagen and wife Bobbie J. of Kingwood, Texas, Ordean C. Hagen and wife Arlene of Oakland, Neb., daughter-in-law Waltraut Hagen of Orlando, Fla. Carol also leaves 18 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and four step great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law Gladys Weed of Montana; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Carol was always especially proud of her extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Orland H. Hagen; her parents Ben and Ella (Verplank) Weed, two brothers Orville and Harold Weed, one son Harland C. Hagen and great-grandson Christopher Hagen.
