Pawlenty appoints political ally again

Recently, Gov. Tim Pawlenty appointed State Sen. Betsy Wergin to the Public Utilities Commission to fulfill the term being vacated by her brother LeRoy Koppendrayer. The governor has once again shown his true colors by “keeping it in the family” rather than seeking a professional to fulfill a statewide office. He appointed a political ally who has never served on a legislative committee concerning energy or utilities, has never authored a significant legislative initiative in these areas, and has no past-career experience in the field.

This appointment of an unqualified candidate based on political friendships is strangely reminiscent of a certain former transportation commissioner, and we all know how well Minnesota was served by that decision.

Unfortunately, this is just another example of how nepotism and special favors run deep and wide in the Pawlenty administration.
