Robert Sorlie

A remembrance gathering for Robert F. Sorlie of 821 Hawthorne St., Albert Lea, will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. All friends and relatives welcome. Interment will be made immediately following at Graceland Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea veterans organizations.
Bob died on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was 87.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1921, in Albert Lea, the son of William and Anna (Fossum) Sorlie.
Bob graduated from Marshall High School in Minneapolis and then entered and served our country in the U.S. Marines. When he returned from the service he was united in marriage to Harriet N. Rheaume on June 6, 1952, in Minneapolis.
Following their marriage, they spent most of their years in Albert Lea except for short times in Minot, N.D., and Phoenix, Ariz.
Bob had worked as a salesman for a number of years and then for the Freeborn County Highway Department, from which he retired.
In his younger years, Robert had been active as a 4-H key leader and also worked with the Y’s Men and Little League Baseball. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was interested in horses and dogs.
He is survived by his sons, William J. “Will” Sorlie and Rob Sorlie, both of Albert Lea; granddaughters, Traci and Kaleigh Sorlie, also of Albert Lea; and several cousins and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Harriet; and two sisters, Jane Klinger and Billie Sorlie.
