Memorial services for Dennis Allen Buker, 57, of Albert Lea, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Vano will officiate. Interment will be in the Hewitt Cemetery with his daughter Farrah at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.
Dennis died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at Albert Lea Medical Center, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Dennis Allen Buker was born on April 14, 1951, to Loren Buker and Rachel Neubauer-Hiers in Waseca. He graduated from Waseca High School and attended one year at the Jackson VoTec. Dennis was united in marriage to Kathryn Booen on Aug. 7, 1976, in Waseca. He was self-employed in appliance and refrigeration repair for 26 years and worked for Riverland Community College as a general maintenance worker. He was a past officer of the Albert Lea Elks Lodge #813, a past officer of the 1st District Moose Association, a member of the Austin Elks Lodge 414, Albert Lea Eagles 2258 and the Albert Lea Moose Lodge 1703. Dennis was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Albert Lea and formerly a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waseca.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of Albert Lea; son, Corey (Angie) Buker of Hewitt; grandson, Christopher Laust of Hewitt; sisters and brothers, Diane (Dave) Krienke of Mankato, Steve (Renee) Buker of Waseca, Ron (Marlene) Buker of Mankato, Gary Buker of Janesville, and Debra (Jack) Knish of Owatonna; sisters and brothers-in-law, Deanna (Bob) Mullenbach of Austin, Bonnie (Roger) Stuart of Altoona, Iowa, Connie (Clay) Willey of Pleasant Hills, Iowa, Susan (Bob) Hopkins of Des Moines, Iowa, Michael (April) Booen of Deer Creek and Gary (Karen) Booen of St. Cloud; mother and father-in-law, Kenneth and Beverly Booen of Wadena; and many nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his daughter, Farrah; parents, Loren and Rachel; stepfather, Don Hiers; brother, Rickey; and nephew, Johnathan Hoffmann.
In lieu of flowers memorials, are preferred to the Crossroads Community Hospice or the Caring Bridge Web site.
