Olga Hermanson

Olga Marie Hermanson, 99, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, on what would have been her 81st wedding anniversary, at the Lake Mills Care Center, in Lake Mills.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with the Rev. W. Paul Weeg officiating. Burial will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
Olga Marie (Kloster) Hermanson was born on Dec. 18, 1908, near Scarville, Iowa, to parents Jonas and Trina (Lyngaas) Kloster. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville and attended country schools in Winnebago County.
On Aug. 24, 1927, Olga was united in marriage with James M. Hermanson at Winnebago Lutheran Church in rural Leland, Iowa. Together they farmed for many years moving to Lake Mils in 1963. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, where she was active in WELCA and various circles.
Olga loved her family and treasured the many visits spent with them. She loved to read, cook, and bake. She was especially famous for her lefse and donuts. She enjoyed gardening and growing African violets and other plants. Olga worked at the Lake Mills Care Center for 17 years, retiring at the age of 83.
Survivors include her daughter, Ovila Hanna of Lake Mills; two sons, Roger G. Hermanson and his wife, Betty, and Kenneth Hermanson and his wife, Maryann, all of Albert Lea. Also surviving are ten grandchildren: Emily (Hanna) and Larry Voldahl, Julie (Hanna) Kahl, Bonnie (Hanna) and Al Helland, Jean (Hanna) and Shane Reinlasoder, Laura (Hanna) VonHinueber, Jim and Mary Hermanson, Tom Hermanson, Linda (Hermanson) and Tim Pomeroy, Lori (Hermanson) and Gary Tritle, and Debra (Hermanson) and Bob Arnold, Jr.; and three step-grandchildren, Michael and Doreen Scherf, Patricia Scherf, and Robert and Coleen Scherf. Olga also had 19 great grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren, a sister, Martha Knutson of Northwood, Iowa, a brother, Charles Kloster of Austin, two sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; six sisters, Jeanette, Cora, Jorgina, Gilma, Anna, and Inga; five brothers, Andrew, Arthur, Carl, Oliver, and Gordon; a son-in-law, Carl Hanna; great granddaughter, Susan Voldahl; and a grandson-in-law, Michael VanHineuber.
