Bonnie Sloan

Funeral services for Bonnie Lou Sloan of Blooming Prairie, formerly of Ellendale, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Ellendale. The Rev. Gary Liker will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4 until 8 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Ellendale, and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery, Geneva.
Bonnie died Saturday morning, Sept. 27, 2008, at her home in Blooming Prairie. She was 73 years of age.
Bonnie was born Jan. 25, 1935, in New Ulm, the daughter of Hugo and Leona (Bleick) Albrecht. She graduated from DMLC in New Ulm and the Faribault School of Nursing.
Bonnie was united in marriage to Donald Sloan on March 11, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She worked as a nurse at the Albert Lea Hospital in the early years of their marriage, and then did private duty nursing. In the late 1960s she began a nursing career at the Owatonna Hospital then worked at Infinia until her retirement.
Bonnie lived on the farm near Ellendale until 1974 when she moved into Ellendale. In 2001 she moved to the Heather Haus in Blooming Prairie.
She loved to attend family events and never missed her grandchildren’s activities, especially their sporting events. She enjoyed playing cards, casino trips, her nursing career and visiting with her many friends. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Steele County Red Cross, volunteer and past board member of the Steele County Food Shelf, one of the original founding members of the Steele County Hospice, a 4-H leader and Girl Scout leader.
Bonnie is survived by her children: Deb and her husband Kerry Harvey of Brownsdale, Cheri and her husband Rick Krejci of Blooming Prairie, Cindy and her husband Tim Owen of Heron Lake, Gary and his wife Brooke Sloan of Grand Meadow. Grandchildren include: Mike and Matt Harvey, Lindsey, Scott and Aaron Krejci, Ryan and Ben Scheevel and their father Clyde Scheevel of Worthington, Trevor, Tyler and Allie Sloan. There is one great-granddaughter: Madelyn Harvey. Also surviving is one brother: James (Jeanne) Albrecht of New Ulm, and sisters; Kay (Jim) Gerasch of New Ulm and Naomi (Al) Richards, Surprize, Ariz.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and husband Don in 1996.
