Editorial: Volunteer for ‘Extreme Makeover’

This is Albert Lea’s moment in the spotlight.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will film the building of a new house for a deserving family in Freeborn County. This community will do most of the labor. And it will have about 106 hours to do it. That will require an outstanding volunteer spirit.

Will this community rise to the cause?

Let’s hope so.

Two kinds of volunteers are needed. One is a force of people skilled in building trades such as carpentry, electricity, plumbing, framing, masonry and so forth. The other is a force of everyday folks who just want to lend a helping hand.

The more people this effort can get, the better Albert Lea and Freeborn County will look when the show airs. In fact, we think this town can knock the socks off any volunteer spirit Ty Pennington and the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” crew has seen before.

You can volunteer by going to AlbertLeaTribune.com and clicking on the advertisement for Larson Contracting and “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Then click on “Volunteer.” Or you can fill out the form that will be printed Wednesday in the Tribune.

Many local businesses, including Larson Contracting, are donating their time and materials for no charge. The ball is rolling. All we need now is you.
