Floyd died Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea.
Floyd Ellsworth Sawyer was born on July 28, 1919, at home in Steele County to Elwin and Sylvia (Steele) Sawyer. He graduated from Ellendale High School. On Feb. 3, 1943, Floyd was united in marriage to Deloyce Molyneux at her home in Blooming Prairie. To this union were born three daughters and one son: Pat, Paulette, Dennis Floyd and Lyn. Floyd served on the board of directors for the Security State Bank of Ellendale, the Ellendale Geneva School Board and also served as a member of the Lions Club. Floyd was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church of Ellendale but due to his poor health had not been able to attend for quite some time. Except for the year he spent in California working in a defense plant, Floyd farmed all of his life. He crop farmed, raised chickens, milk cows, pigs and beef cattle. He enjoyed farming and in his earlier years loved horses and riding his motorcycle, fishing, playing cards and watching football. He was proud of his family and loved to spend time with them. A story about any of his grandchildren always brought a smile to his face. After retiring, Floyd, along with Deloyce, spent many winters in Lake Havasu, Ariz., where he enjoyed bowling. Deloyce faithfully continued to care for Floyd until his last hospital stay forced him to go to the Good Samaritan Center.
Those left to cherish his memory: His loving wife, Deloyce Sawyer of Albert Lea; daughters, Pat Schulz (Marv) of Albert Lea, Paulette Nelson (Dick) of Clarks Grove, Lyn Kruckeberg (Doug) of Mankato; six grandchildren, David Schulz of Red Wing, Kelly Krumwiede (Kurt) of Lake Crystal, Tammy Peterson (David) of Clarks Grove, Teri Jahnke (Darren) of Lonsdale, Jennifer Rechtzigel (Brian) of Lonsdale and Paula Coyour (Shad) of Mankato; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Helen Sawyer, Avis Mickelson and Betty Molyneux; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Elwin and Sylvia Sawyer; infant son, Dennis Floyd; brothers, Chester, Eugene, and Warren Sawyer; nieces, Kathleen Sawyer and Julie Anderson.
A special thank you, to the hospice staff for all of their gentle care and to Jake Loper for his many visits. Also, thank you to the Good Samaritan staff for their care and to the Rev. Kent Otterman for his visits. Floyd will be greatly missed, but we are all blessed with his memory. He was a very special husband, father and friend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Crossroads Community Hospice.
