The Alden-Conger football team bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 44-13 win Friday at Truman.

The Knights (2-1, 1-1) spotted the Jayhawks a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but came back strongly with two touchdowns before the quarter ended.

Quarterback Lucas Kleinschrodt scored on a 28-yard run and completed a pass to Max Keller for the two-point conversion and an 8-7 lead. Later in the quarter David Troska scored on a 3-yard run to grab the lead at 16-7.

Alden-Conger didn’t look back after that, scoring 28 points over the second and third quarters.

Kleinschrodt had a big night on the ground and through the air as he threw two touchdowns and ran for one. He finished 14 of 25 with 185 yards passing and added 81 yards on six carries.

Despite the score Knights head coach Chad Mattson said the game wasn’t flawless.

“We made a lot of mistakes and missed some open passes,” Mattson said.

Alden-Conger receivers dropped some deep balls and the offensive line missed blocks in the early going, Mattson said.

Mattson has cause for concern as the Knights will face Hills-Beaver Creek/Ellsworth next. The Patriots are 3-0 and knocked off Edgerton, a perennial power, 13-12 two weeks ago.
