Myra Foss

Myra Marie Foss, 90, of Austin, died Sunday morning, Sept. 14, 2008, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. She was born July 30, 1918, to William and Maude (Vesper) Sweet at Elma, Iowa, where she grew up and attended school. She married Arthur Jacobson on May 1, 1934, in Arlington, Iowa. They made their home in Cresco, Iowa. During the first few years, five children were born, and they moved to Arlington, Iowa. Later they moved to Minnesota where they settled in Lyle and later London. Myra married Jay Foss on Sept. 19, 1956, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They resided on a farm south of London until retirement when they moved into Austin and wintered in Alamo, Texas. A member of Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church, Myra baked and decorated cakes for 20 years and enjoyed crocheting, puzzles and traveling. She and Jay traveled to all 50 states and 17 foreign countries.
She is survived by three sons, Richard (Ellen) Jacobson of Owatonna, Wayne (Elaine) Jacobson of Wyoming and Larry Jacobson of Belton, Mo.; two daughters, Myrna Gray of Apple Valley, California; Bonnie (Leo) Bridley of Oakland; 20 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; nine great- great-grandchildren; brother, Walter (Thelma) Sweet of Russellville, Ark.; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday at Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church, 87332 Stateline Road, rural Glenville with the Rev. Ronald D. Myers, officiating. Interment will follow the service at London – Deer Creek Cemetery, Worth County, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and one hour prior to the service at the church.
