10 legislative races to watch

All 134 Minnesota House seats and two state Senate seats are on the Nov. 4 ballot. Here are 10 House races deemed competitive by party strategists and other observers. Democrats currently hold 85 seats to the Republicans’ 49.

Seat: 4A — Parts of Beltrami, Cass and Itasca counties

Seat: 12B — Parts of Crow Wing, Morrison counties

Candidates: DFLer Al Doty vs. Republican Mike LeMieur

Status: Doty holds

2006: Doty won with nearly 52 percent of the vote

Seat: 28A — Parts of Goodhue, Wabasha counties

Candidates: DFLer Sandy Wollschlager vs. Republican Tim Kelly

Status: Wollschlager holds

2006: Wollschlager won with 51 percent of vote

Seat: 31B — Parts of Winona, Fillmore and Houston counties

Candidates: DFLer Ken Tschumper vs. Republican Greg Davids

Status: Tschumper holds

2006: Tschumper won by 52 votes over Davids

Seat: 37B — Apple Valley, Rosemount

Candidates: DFLer Phil Sterner vs. Republican Judy Lindsay

Seat: 38B — Eagan

Candidates: DFLer Mike Obermueller vs. Republican Lynn Wardlow

Status: Wardlow holds

2006: Wardlow beat Obermueller by 163 votes

Candidates: DFLer Kevin Staunton vs. Republican Keith Downey vs. Independent Ron Erhardt

Status: Erhardt holds
