John McCune

The Memorial service for John F. McCune of Albert Lea will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 until 5 p.m. at St Theodore Catholic Church, 315 East Clark St.
John died on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at his home surrounded by family and friends.
John was born July 12, 1946, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of John and Betty McCune. After graduating from high school, John attended Iowa State University for one year. John was drafted into the Army and served from 1966 until 1969. He was united in marriage to Joy (Benscoter) on November 20, 1965 in Marengo, Iowa. After his service in the Army, John worked for Goodyear. In 1972 he transferred to Albert Lea to work for Goodyear. In 1975 John started his own company, Albert Lea Quality Exteriors, which he operated for over 30 years.
John was involved in the Albert Lea community through the following organizations; Elks, American Legion, Moose, Ritual Team, and was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church and served as an usher.
John enjoyed playing cards, fishing, carpentry work, reading, sports, and spending time with his grandchildren.
John is survived by his loving wife, Joy, of Albert Lea, mother Shirley McCune, children; Jeff (Lisa) McCune of Beaumont, Texas, Brian McCune of Austin, Amy (Ken) Steinke of Plymouth, Matthew (Rochelle) McCune of Albert Lea, Brian (Michelle) Olson of Edina. There are 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also surviving are five sisters and two brothers.
John was preceded in death by his father John, birthmother Betty, and his grandparents.
John was a great husband, father, grandfather and will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends.
