The five-man Albert Lea Fire Department Combat Squad has moved on to the finals of the Scott’s Firefighter Combat Challenge in Las Vegas. They will compete sometime after 5 p.m. on Saturday.

In the first round, the squad completed the simulation in its best time ever of 1 minute 33 seconds.

The simulation includes a linked series of five tasks, including climbing a five-story tower, hoisting, chopping, dragging hoses and rescuing a life-sized, 175-pound “victim” as they race against themselves, their opponent and the clock. It is all done while wearing full bunker gear and a Scott Air-Pak breathing apparatus.
