Cost-of-living raises separate top, bottom

As the county commissioners review the salaries, I would like to suggest that they do not just add cost of living onto the salaries. The problem we have not only in the county but in the country is with the cost-of-living concept, the spread just continues to get wider between the top of the salary and the bottom of the salary. Example: 3 percent on $30,000 equals $900 and 3 percent on $100,000 equals $3,000. Just pencil that out over a 30-year career and see the difference!

I do not know if retirement benefits the county will pay are figured this way, but if they are then again the spread from the bottom to the top will just continue to get wider.
