Ellen Mae Meyer, 93, of Wells, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2008, at Parkview Care Center of Wells. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Wells. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The Rev. Paul Woolverton will officiate and burial will be in the Rosehill Cemetery, Wells, Faribault County.
Ellen was born Feb. 5, 1915, in Matawan, the daughter of Herman and Minnie (Miller) Vogelsang. She attended country school through grade school. She worked at the Black & White Sandwich Shop in Wells, Young’s Shoe Store, Ruffings Market, and Besser’s Market in Wells. On June 28, 1940 Ellen was united in marriage to Arnold Meyer in Northwood, Iowa.
Ellen was an active member of the United Methodist Church, involved with many activities with the ladies’ aide, having served as co-chairperson for the funeral committee for 25 years. She was an avid spectator at her sons’ and grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, quilting, and playing cards and dominos. She also enjoyed her annual trip up north with her family.
Ellen Meyer is survived by her husband Arnold; sons: Dennis (Betty) of Waverly, Iowa, Ronald (Nancy) of Windom and David (Carmen) of Wells; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Johanson of Wells; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends: Rose Lenort, Gary and Janet Jacobs, and the Chickenfoot Gang.
She was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Minnie; brothers: Roger, Melvin, Elroy, and Milton; sister Mabel Buelow; brothers-in-law: Wilbur Johanson and Les Buelow; sister-in-law Grace Vogelsang; daughter-in-law Sharon (Klenk) Meyer; son Gene Meyer; and granddaughter Dawn (Meyer) Dillavou.
Memorials are preferred to United Hands Hospice.
