Fifth-graders, Kiwanis Club team up

The Albert Lea Noon Kiwanis has teamed up with fifth-graders at Hawthorne Elementary to help them succeed in academics. The program, called BUGS, stands for Bringing Up Grades. Each student selects an area in which he or she would like to improve. Along with classroom teachers, Mary Jo Dorman and Amy Schuhmacher, students write a specific, measurable and realistic goal that they need to work toward each trimester. Upon reaching their goal, the Kiwanis will hold a ceremony and celebration. This allows students to learn how to set and write goals, meet goals, and see the benefits.
