The funeral service for Gerald G. (Jerry) Walterman of Clarks Grove will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Salvation Army Citadel, Albert Lea. Capts. Jim and Lynnea Brickson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Salvation Army Citadel and one hour prior to the service. Military honors will be accorded.
Jerry passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2008 at his home. He was 64 years old.
Jerry was born Sept. 8, 1944, in Austin, to Elmer and Evelyn (DeBoer) Walterman. He attended country school near Dexter and high school at Spring Valley. Jerry grew up in the Dexter and Spring Valley area. Most recently he has lived in Clarks Grove. Jerry was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army. Jerry married Nancy Sue Christenson on March 14, 1981, at the Community Lutheran Church, Geneva. He was a member of the Salvation Army. He had worked for Racine Elevator, Quality Pork Processors and Darnell Farms in rural Dexter, which he enjoyed immensely. Jerry belonged to the Salvation Army Men’s Fraternity and Disaster Services.
He enjoyed talking on the CB and his handle was Heavy Chevy and Crazy Man. Jerry also enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, his dog Buddy, and his grandchildren. Jerry never said a bad word about anyone. He liked everyone and especially enjoyed shooting the breeze.
Jerry is survived by his wife Nancy Walterman of Clarks Grove; three daughters: Amy Storlie and fiancé Tim Dunn of Manly, Iowa, Tarri Jane Erickson of Rochester, and Nova Van Den Hemel and husband Jim of Rochester; four sons: Jeremy Walterman and special friend Allison Palmer of Albert Lea, Danny Walterman and his wife Roxanne of Austin, Raymond Erickson and his wife, Nickie of Chatfield, and Gerald Erickson of Rochester; mother -in-law: Hazel Christenson of Clarks Grove; grandchildren: Thomas Shawback, Jeramia Drake-Erickson, DesiRay Storlie, Chloe Sue Walterman and Carlea Jo Walterman; grandchildren: Amanda, Zakary, Jacob, Keagon, Magan, and Damian Erickson, Charles, Brandon and Nikkita Van Den Hemel and Cole Erickson. Three brothers: Raymond Walterman and his wife Cheryl of Mocksville, N.C., Ronald Walterman and his wife Marilyn of Racine, and Vernon Walterman and his wife Nancy of Rochester; and his dog Buddy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Evelyn Walterman; daughter, Jean Marie Walterman; and father-in-law: Ray Christenson Sr.
