Harold Leo Hannegrefs was born on June 2, 1925, in rural Epping, S.D., the son of John and Elizabeth (Marks) Hannegrefs. Harold served his country in the United States Navy, aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Enterprise, during World War II. He was very proud of his military service. On July 29, 1948, Harold was married to Lois Schablin in Bird Island. He was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church, the V.F.W., and the American Legion. Harold enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his grandkids. In later years he especially loved his great-grandkids. They lit up his day. Whenever the great-grandkids came to visit Harold would always give them a dollar. In his younger years, Harold enjoyed taking his family camping and fishing and liked working in his garden.
