Luella Mittag

Funeral services for Luella Martha Mittag, 93, of Albert Lea (formerly of Myrtle) will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Myrtle. The Rev. Ronald Myers will officiate. Interment will be at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Luella died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.
Luella Martha Mittag was born on Dec. 14, 1914, to Fred and Florentina Schilling in Freeborn County. Luella was a lifetime resident of Freeborn County. She attended Schilling school 138 near Myrtle through the eighth grade. Luella was united in marriage to Waldemar Mittag on Dec. 14, 1938, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was a devoted wife and mother. Luella was a lifetime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was active in the ELCW and circle. She was also active in Mother’s Club and a charter member of the Myrtle 4-H Club where she served as key leader when her children were growing up. Luella was a quilter, making hand sewn pattern quilts for her children and grandchildren. She was her husband’s helper in woodworking.  Luella enjoyed gardening, canning, pickling, baking, and dancing. She was a loving, gentle lady who will be missed by us all. She always enjoyed her loyal visitors, Lila Ellingson, Ruth Schilling, Ruth Thompson and Rita Seeger.
Survivors include her son, Douglas and wife Mary Mittag and daughter, Shilynn of Bolingbrook, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Donna Mittag of Glenville; grandchildren, Dorenne and husband Mike Hansen, their children, Heidi and fiancé Sean Gaston, Alex and Logan of Glenville, Bonnie and husband Curt Anding, their children, Bethany and Lindsey of West Concord, David and wife April Mittag, their children, Skylar and Mariah of New London, Mo., Brenda and husband Troy Wehking, their children, Emma and Olivia of Avoca, Walker and Jennifer Elliott, their children, Kyle and Jonathan of Woodstock, Ill., Jessica Chaidez, and her children, Antonio, Olivia and Isaac of South Elgin, Ill.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Waldemar; son, Bruce Mittag; sister, Lillian Schilling; and brothers, Albert (Bertha) Schilling, Verner (Wilma) Schilling and Art Schilling.
