Pitching in for a good cause

St. Theodore Catholic School students are inviting people from the community to take a night off from cooking Sunday.

The school will host its annual spaghetti supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in Marian Hall. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 and younger. Tickets will be available at the door or after weekend Masses in the church access.

“It’s a great community activity,” said chairman Russ Nemec, who has two sons in the school. “It’s family members of the school kids coming together for a good cause.”

Nemec said Mrs. Gerry’s, Hy-Vee and the Knights of Columbus are sponsors of the event, donating some of the food that will be served. In addition, parents and family members are donating baked goods and crafts to be sold at the event’s country store.

“People are either donating goods or their time and talents,” Nemec said. “Also those who are coming are supporting the school.”

The event is organized by the Parent School Association, the fundraising arm of the school that works to keep tuition low for everyone.

“Everything we raise stays right here,” Nemec said.

Nemec said every school family is asked to help out in some way with the supper.

“There’s a great camaraderie at this,” he said, adding there are even some grandparents of students helping at the event.

“That’s the fun part — pitching in for a good cause,” Nemec said.
