Agnes Ackland

Funeral services for Agnes Ackland, age 97, of Albert Lea will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Interment will be at the Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church.
Agnes Magdelene Caroline Kuethe was born on April 9, 1911 in Pickerel Lake Township, the daughter of William and Louise (Bangert) Kuethe. She was baptized at Concordia Pickerel Lake Lutheran Church and confirmed at First Lutheran in Albert Lea.
She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1929 and then moved to St. Paul where she attended business school and worked for a few years. On May 30, 1936 she married N. Elwood Ackland and moved to the Ackland family farm near Albert Lea.
She was a member of First Lutheran in Albert Lea for over 90 years, taught Sunday School for a time and was a founding member of Mission Circle No. 20. She loved to travel, though she didn’t do nearly enough, enjoyed playing the piano, creating floral arrangements, gardening and reading. She also participated in the local extension group and in earlier years enjoyed a card club with neighbors and assisted with 4-H and PTA projects.
Survivors include her children, daughters Rachel of Minneapolis, Miriam (Dennis) Swenson of New Prague, Linda (John) Kolb of Sioux Falls, S.D. and son Les who remains on the farm; granddaughters Ingrid Kolb of Fargo, N.D. and Britta Kolb of St. Joseph; her sister Irma Trombatore of Ontario, Calif., and nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Elwood, in 1990.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church or donor’s choice.
