Five Tiger players scored in double figures Friday night for the Albert Lea girls’ basketball team as they picked up a conference win against Rochester Mayo in Rochester.

Katie Schou led Albert Lea (2-2, 1-0) with 17 points as her hot start set the tone early.

Schou connected on five 3-pointers in the game and her ability to hit from 3-point range opened up the offensive attack for others to take advantage.

Albert Lea’s backcourt benefitted from Schou’s fast start. Alyssa Sager put up 12 points and Abbey Arends had 10 points.

Sager put together a solid all-around game. She had six rebounds, three steals and one block.

The Tigers shot just 39 percent from the field, but Morgan Stadheim was in the paint to collect the misses. Stadheim had her second double-double in as many nights, finishing with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

“She’s taken the lead and shown us how to rebound,” Albert Lea head coach Sean Gillam said. “I love that 14 rebound stat more than I do the 11 points.”

The Tigers outrebounded the Spartans 46-32 in the game.

Heather Greibrok was another player that recorded double-digits in points. Greibrok finished with 10 points as Albert Lea rolled over Mayo (1-3, 1-1).

The Tigers controlled play throughout the game and the Spartans never really threatened in the second half.

It was the second consecutive win for Albert Lea after picking up a 58-46 win over Visitation Thursday.

In spite of Gillam’s worries the Tigers showed no effects of having to play back-to-back games, but some of his pregame speech might have had something to do with that.

Gillam said he tore up the stat sheet from Thursday’s night game to convey that the team must focus on the game at hand and not be satisfied with the previous win.

Mayo tried to pressure Albert Lea with a press, but the Tigers were prepared for it this time around, unlike the Waseca game, and ran the press breaker well.
