Alta Jensen

Funeral services for Alta Irene Jensen, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery.
Alta died Monday evening, Jan. 12, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. She was 92 years of age.
Alta was born Sept. 4, 1916, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Fred and Dora (Hanson) Romer. She attended the Barlow Country School. Alta was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. She was united in marriage to Egon Jensen on March 15, 1939. Together they farmed for many years in the area and later owned and operated Egon’s Restaurant.
Alta also worked for many years at the County Home, now Good Samaritan Center in the laundry room, Swen’s Danish Bakery, Bunnell’s Donut Hut and the Country Treat Shoppe in the Northbridge Mall.
In her free time, Alta enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading her Bible and putting jigsaw puzzles together. She made many beautiful doilies and afghans and upholstered many pieces of furniture.
Alta belonged to the Oaks Mission Circle and the Lois Circle. She was always willing to help when called upon. She was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
Alta is survived by her children: Gloria and her husband Patrick Fitzgerald of Albert Lea, Bette Madson of Apple Valley, and Donald Jensen of Albert Lea; grandchildren include: Terry (Sue) Smith, Randy Madson, Shelley Fortier, Monica (Shane) Carr, Shawn (Kelley) Jensen, Jason Jensen, Jennifer (Michael) Kreimeyer, Carrie (Bill) Campbell. There are also several great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins. Brothers-in-law include: Clarence Petersen, Oscar Jensen and Howard (Babe) Jensen.
Alta was preceded in death by her son, Charles, in 1984; her parents, Fred and Dora; sisters: Beatrice Romer, Ruth (Harold) Waldemar, Harriet (Garland) Mortensen, Alvera (Bill) Reichl, Delona Petersen; two brothers: Harold (Gladys) Romer, Ray (Gen) Romer; sisters-in-law: Arlene Jensen, Berneice Jensen, Mildred Jensen; and brother-in-law, Alvin Jensen.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Good Samaritan Center and the area Hospice for their wonderful care during her time of need.
