Courtney Slife

A remembrance gathering, a time to visit with family, for Courtney “Coke” A. Slife, of Albert Lea, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea.
Courtney was born on Dec. 15, 1915, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Bertha Slife. Following graduation from high school he went on to obtain his law degree from the University of Minnesota.
Coke served our country in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II.
He was united in marriage to Pauline “Polly” French on June 19, 1939, in Hawarden, Iowa.
Mr. Slife had served as an attorney in our area, operating in private practice for over 50 years, retiring in 2002. He also operated as municipal judge for 12 years and as Albert Lea city attorney for 18 years.
He had been a member of the Elks Club, Lions Club and had been active in many civic committees and activities.
He enjoyed golfing, boating and fishing.
Coke died at St. John’ s Lutheran Home on Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, (his birthday). He was 93.
Coke is survived by two children: Jay Slife and his wife Julie of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Pat Slife of Sacramento, Calif.; son-in-law, Dan Steen of New Hope; grandchildren: Scott DesBles and his wife Karen of Plymouth, Amy and her husband Dan Sundem of St. Louis Park, Nick Beermann and his wife of Toyko, Japan, Chaim Elijah and Jeff Elijah, both of Seattle, Wash.; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pauline; two daughters: Barbara Slife-Thomas and Kathryn Steen; sisters: Dorothy and Ruth; and a brother, Curtis.
