Fishing, songs of Beatles on tap for weekend

The Lighthouse Event Center, 638 Marshall St., Albert Lea, will present “Come Together for Songs of The Beatles,” featuring local artists this weekend. Show times are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. They are available at Tone Music.

Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.

Friday, Jan. 30

The Albert Lea Art Center’s 50th anniversary all-member show will be open from noon to 4 p.m. The works of some 70 artists are on display. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

Saturday, Jan. 31

The Humane Society of Freeborn County will hold a pet adoption day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Albert Lea Animal Shelter.

Sunday, Feb. 1

A pancake breakfast benefit for Gary Richards will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the American Legion in New Richland. A silent auction will be held during the benefit. Richards has been diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Monetary donations may be sent to: Gary Richards Benefit Account, United Prairie Bank, 110 W. Rose St., P.O. The Fountain Lake Sportsmen’s Club will hold an ice-fishing contest from noon to 2 p.m. People participating can meet at the gazebo at Fountain Lake Park. The cost is $5 per hole. There will also be raffles. More than $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded. All proceeds will go toward the annual Take a Kid Fishing Day.
