Herbert Prescher

Funeral services for Herbert R. Prescher of New Richland, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Richland. The Rev. Charles Espe will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery, New Richland. Military honors will be accorded by the New Richland veterans group.
Mr. Prescher died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at the New Richland Care Center. He was 86 years of age.
Herb was born Nov. 13, 1922, to Julius and Martha (Martin) Prescher, sixth of 13 children. He grew up in the Wells area and attended Martin Luther College in New Ulm.
Herb served his country in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
He was united in marriage to Rita Mucha and together they had nine children. He farmed in the New Richland area and owned the New Richland Insurance Agency. Herb was later divorced and married Jan Getskow on Dec. 1, 1982, in New Richland.
Herb was a member of the St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church and had served as president of the congregation. He was an active member of the American Legion, New Richland Lions and Commercial Clubs.
In his free time, Herb loved fishing, traveling, playing golf, reading, bowling and crossword puzzles. He enjoyed high school sports and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
Herb is survived by his wife, Jan of Ellendale; children: Michael (Janice) Prescher of Pine Island, Dennis Prescher of New Richland, Marsha (David) Groth of Rochester, Bruce (Debbie Sue) Prescher of Marietta, Ga., Debra (Patrick) Hughs of Lakewood, Colo., Kristine (Brad) Meints of Pine Island, Brad (Lu Ann) Prescher of Ottertail, and Amy (Christoph) Henning of Berlin, Conn. There are 13 grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. Also surviving are stepchildren: Jeff (Susie) Getskow of Maricopa, Ariz., David Getskow of Becker, Thomas Getskow of Mary Esther, Fla., Karen (David) Lundberg of Ellendale. There are 11 step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. One brother survives, Robert Prescher, and sisters: Shirley Eckart, Eleanor Possin and Marian Nagel.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; son Mark; brothers: Rosco, Everett, Harold, Adrian and Victor; and sisters: Dorothy, Alice and Janet.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are preferred.
