Rita Davis

Funeral services for Rita Jane Davis, age 65, of Glenville will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Faith Lutheran Church in London. The Rev. Kent Otterman will officiate. Interment will be at Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Rita died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 at her home following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Rita Davis was born on March 9, 1943 to George and Clara (Becker) Horgen in Northwood, Iowa. She grew up in Northwood and graduated from Northwood High School in 1961. On July 20, 1963 Rita was united in marriage to Sheldon Davis in Northwood. The couple resided in rural Glenville. Rita worked as a bookkeeper for Sanders Drug in Albert Lea. Then, for many years, she was employed at Hardee’s in Albert Lea until retiring several years ago. Rita had served as a 4-H leader when her girls were involved with 4-H. She was a former member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood and Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church. Rita was currently a member of Faith Lutheran Church in London. Through the years Rita was active in many capacities in her churches as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Historian, served as secretary on the church council and as President of the Ladies Aid. Rita loved the time she spent with her grandchildren, taking them to music lessons and other activities. She enjoyed her black camero convertible and taking rides with her husband. She also liked cooking, baking and trying out new recipes.
Survivors include her husband, Sheldon; children, Shelly Woitas of Albert Lea and Stacy Davis of Rochester; grandchildren, Aaron and Andy Woitas; sisters-in-law, Sondra Horgen and Sharyl (Paul) Ferley; brother-in-law, Steven Davis; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Suzanne Davis; brother, Orlin Horgen and a twin brother at birth.
