Adeline Spain

Funeral services for Adeline Spain, 91, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Home Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister will officiate. Interment will be at the Hollandale Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
Adeline died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Adeline Johanna Ruhnke Spain was born to Emil and Mathilda Ruhnke on Jan. 24, 1918, at Springfield Township, Iowa. She graduated from Albert Lea High School. She married William Spain at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa in 1938. They were vegetable growers in Hollandale and enjoyed many trips to Lake of the Woods in pursuit of walleye. Addie enjoyed traveling in their motor home until her husband’s death, and did volunteer work at St. John’s where she enjoyed quilting and knitting.
Survivors include her children: Ronald (Sylvia) Spain of Rochester, Dennis (Marilyn) Spain of Shorewood, Rebecca (Michael) Strange of Valencia, Calif., and Steve Spain of Austin; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Wolf of Chatsworth, Calif.; brothers-in-law: Ted (Ruth) Spain, Harry Kuiters of Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Thelma Ruhnke of Midland, Texas; many nieces and nephews.
Adeline was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dale; husband, William; sisters: Beatrice Weisman, Maxine Bredlow, Eunice Kuiters and brother, Wallace Ruhnke.
